Powerful Basketball Mindset

Posted by bechtom On August - 29 - 2009

Michael Jordan had a powerful mindset. Bill Russell had a powerful mindset. You want me to go on?

All the great players have a powerful mindset. Now, having the right mindset it not enough. Take
a look at Michael Jordan. When he decided to play for the Wizards, he didn’t have the same psychical
ability he once had. But in his mind, he was all Jordan.

Here is a recipe for improving your mindset:

1.) Believe in yourself. See yourself as a great basketball player. I remember watching an interview with
Bill Russell. The reporter asked him something about how he manages to be such a good defensive player. Bill
answered that no matter what the opponent will try to do, he can’t score. He can’t win. He just can’t.
It’s as simple as that.

2.) Play your heart out. It’s not for nothing that a lot of people say, just go out there and give a 110%.
You can win in a game, but if you didn’t give your all, you’re a loser. You didn’t win because you weren’t
at your best. You might have actually won the game but that’s because the other team sucked big time. Try
to be the best player you can be every game. The next game, try to be even better. It’s all inner state of mind.

3.) Have a goal to achieve something. May that be to win a championship of just please your father, or impress
your girlfriend. It doesn’t matter. I can challenge the greatest shooter in the world, in his best day, and I’ll win.
I’m positive. But first I’ll put blinders on him and turn him around a couple of times so he has no clue where
he is at.

Now you may say, well Trajko, that sure is a silly example. How can you possible hit a target you can’t see? Pretty
good question huh? Here’s one, even better. How can you hit a target, you don’t have?

In a Harsh Game the Lakers Defeat Utah

Posted by bechtom On August - 29 - 2009

Kobe Bryant scored 38 points taking the Lakers to the first victory in the West Conference semifinals (109-98) against the Jazz of Utah. Additional help came from Pau Gasol with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while the Jazz players also did their part with Mehmet Okur with 21 points and 19 rebounds and Carlos Boozer with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lakers certainly came back to life after their fall in the previous qualifying round against the Denver Nuggets. While at play with the Jazz the Lakers were down but were able to recover for a final victory.

Another clash was also taking place between coaches Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan who had not been face to face since the 1998 NBA final between the Bulls and the Jazz. The Lakers took advantage of the low Jazz shot percentage 36/95, 37.9 a definite turn-around which aim the team.

From the beginning, Gasol knew to take advantage of the gaps left by the rival defense to catch the assistance and be led directly to the hoop. Two Jazz players tried to block him but Gasol knew how to prevent that blocking and scored his best points.

On the other hand, Utah Jazz Deron Williams had a very positive control of the ball as he handled it with intelligence a plan, which was working against his rivals during the first quarter, as they were faster than the Lakers.

It is very possible Bryant will be named the best player of the season; he has been very steady and has not fail his team when needed most. During the first quarter of the game against Utah he scored 15 points leaving the Californians with one point of advantage (25-24). .

The Lakers also had extra resources with Vujacic whose triples triggered the team’s take off. Gasol on this end kept approaching the hoop and led the team to a (41-28). The team’s true winning formula was a combination of speed in the attack and an intense defense.

Throughout the game the Lakers led with a small difference while the Utah players distributed amongst themselves the points in the same way as in the game carried out in the series against the Rockets last Friday.

During the second half, the Lakers spectacular game continued despite the constant attack from the Utah players Boozer and Okur who tried to turn the situation around but did not find the way to it. Then in the last quarter with the scoreboard at 79-72 the Staples Center trembled as both teams continue their fight for the night triumph.

The Jazz suffered an unexpected removal of one of the players; when Boozer walked out of the court; then Gasol awoke and began to score (101-90) and only 44 second before the end of the game; Utah just did not how to solve the equation and the Lakers imposed their superiority quickly to grasp the win.

Striker Martins Decides to Stick With Newcastle United

Posted by bechtom On August - 29 - 2009

Kevin Keegan must have breathed a sigh of relief when it was revealed that one of his star players, Obafemi Martins, had decided to stay at his Tyneside team. The Nigerian international striker is thought to have rejected a huge £15 million offer from Arsenal, which must have had come as a surprise to Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger.

There were a number of other teams such as Manchester United and AC Milan who were also thought to have expressed an interest in buying the 23-year-old striker, but Martins declined their offers and pledged his allegiance to Newcastle United.

Martins’ advisor Chris Nathaniel confirmed that a number of major teams had expressed an interest in his client, but he was just as keen to tell reporters that Martins had told him that he had no plans to leave the Toon Army in the near future. Mr Nathaniel said: “Several top clubs have made contact, but Obafemi hasn’t indicated an interest in any of them and he has no intention of quitting the club.”

Although Martins was rumoured to be close to quitting Newcastle United under the leadership of Sam Allardyce, who failed to give the striker a regular starting place in the first team, he is now thought to want to stay at the North East club in order to help them win a much sought-after place in Europe. Since Kevin Keegan has been at the helm, Martins has been playing for Newcastle United’s first team much more regularly and he is thought to be eager to help his new boss to build a strong and successful squad.

Martins was bought from Inter Milan for £10 million and arrived at Newcastle United in 2006. He has more than two years left on his contract with Newcastle United, which is thought to be worth around £60,000 per week.

Martins’ decision to stay at the club will make Keegan very happy indeed. The popular football manager wants to retain his star players in order to build a great team for next season.

Manchester United Russian Visa Deal is Agreed

Posted by bechtom On August - 29 - 2009

The Russian authorities have announced that fans of Manchester United and Chelsea will be allowed to enter Moscow without a visa to watch their teams play in the Uefa European Cup final. Fans will be able to escape Russia’s notoriously strict visa restrictions by simply presenting a valid match ticket on arrival.

The 42,000 football fans that are estimated to have tickets for the Moscow match will welcome the Russian authorities’ announcement, particularly as there were fears that Britain’s ongoing political tension with Russia would hamper attempts to secure a ‘visa-free’ deal. The visa-free decision will also take pressure off the overworked staff at the Russian Embassy, who have been working non-stop to try and issue visas to the thousands of football fans in time for the final, which takes place on the 21st May.

The visa-free deal proposed by the Russian authorities will allow Manchester United and Chelsea fans to use their match tickets as a visa substitute for a 72-hour period between 19 and 23 May. In addition to their valid match ticket, the football fans will also need to present their passports and a completed immigration form to the authorities when they arrive on Russian soil. Those who overstay the 72-hour visa-free entry period will be forced to pay the regular visa fee of around £150 – £200 on his or her departure.

The Russian visa announcement comes after a series of discussions between Michel Platini, President of Uefa (http://www.uefa.com/), and the Russian government. Mr Platini said that the Russian visa concession was “exceptional and unprecedented” and a “historical decision.” He also exclaimed that the long-awaited announcement was “great news.” He said: “This is great news for football fans travelling to watch this year’s Uefa Champions League final in Moscow. Our job is to make sure that they are able to get to and from Moscow as easily as possible. I am therefore extremely pleased that at my request, all fans travelling with a valid match ticket can use this to enter Russian territory.” Mr Platini also thanked Russia for their co-operation. He said: “I must thank wholeheartedly the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, the Russian government, the city of Moscow and the Football Union of Russia.”

The decision has obviously reduced demand for visas, so the Manchester United and Chelsea fans that are hoping to travel to Russia independently and buy a match ticket in Moscow should have their visas processed in time. However, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office are advising supporters in this situation not to travel to Moscow “if they do not have a ticket or accommodation beforehand.”

Emerald Downs | Margo’s Gift prevails in Pepsi-Cola stakes

Posted by bechtom On June - 25 - 2008

AUBURN — Jockey Ricky Frazier capped a winning weekend Sunday by guiding Margo’s Gift inside halfway down the stretch and then to a close victory over Easy Going Cecil and Gallon in the $56,525 Pepsi-Cola Handicap at Emerald Downs.

“Ricky’s been riding great this week,” said Doris Harwood, trainer for Margo’s Gift, “and I said that’s the jockey I want for my horse.”

It was the right choice.

Frazier, who had four wins Friday night and three on Saturday, said he knew Margo’s Gift liked to close at the end of races.

“So I settled him behind the leaders,” Frazier said. “When the time came to move at the sixteenth pole, I had to go along the rail as he was boxed in a little. He ran his heart out down the stretch, and we just got them at the wire.”

“Them” included Easy Going Cecil, ridden by Gallyn Mitchell, who led from the start; Gallon, guided by Juan Gutierrez; and Fear No Evil, with Leslie Mawing up.

Easy Going Cecil held on for second, a neck behind the winner and a head in front of favored Gallon. Fear No Evil faded to sixth in the 6 ½-furlong contest for 3-year-old colts and geldings.

Margo’s Gift paid $6.40, $3.80 and $2.40. Easy Going Cecil brought back $5.20 and $2.80 while Gallon returned $2.20.

Fear No Evil was a surprise winner at 9-1 when these horses met last in the $50,000 Auburn Stakes on May 11. But on Sunday, Margo’s Gift (6-0-2 in nine starts) got it right and won by a neck in 1 minute, 16-1/5 seconds. He finished third in the Auburn, behind Fear No Evil and Gallon, who had finished ahead of Margo’s Gift in their four previous meetings.

The $32,450 share of the purse brings Margo’s Gift’s earnings to $283,664, most of that from winning the $250,000 Favorite Trick Stakes in October in New Jersey. Owned by Ken Alhadeff’s Elttaes Stable, the gelding — a $10,000 yearling purchase — is a Washington-bred, by Polish Gift out of Burgundy Jones.

Harwood said the plan is to race Margo’s Gift in California this fall but the horse will race at Emerald Downs this summer.

Note

• The three jockeys riding for agent Boone McCanna won 24 of the 36 races in the four-day race week ending Sunday. Kevin Radke and Frazier each won nine races, and Seth Martinez won six.

People in Sports | Danica Patrick

Posted by bechtom On June - 25 - 2008

FORT WORTH, Texas — Danica Patrick has a message for Ryan Briscoe: Congratulations on your first IndyCar Series victory.

Yes, she congratulated the driver who slammed into her car on pit row at the Indianapolis 500, a collision that knocked her out with 30 laps to go.

“You know what, I’m happy that he got his win,” Patrick said Monday, a day after Briscoe won at the Milwaukee Mile. “He deserves a big congratulation. He was behind me at the beginning of the race at one point. … He obviously had a good car. He was driving around people like they were sitting still sometimes.”

The win at Milwaukee came a week after Indianapolis, where Briscoe spun his tires and slammed into her car coming out of his pit.

Patrick, who got her first IRL win at Motegi in April, got out of her car and was headed toward Briscoe’s crew when an Indianapolis track security official steered her away. Patrick and Briscoe later talked, but neither apologized or took blame for the incident.

“We don’t agree on what happened,” Patrick said. “That’s the past, this is now. I will race him fair every lap of my career because that’s the type of driver I am, and I expect the same in return.”
